Medical treatments

Please pray for her sister Janice Kophen who begins interferon treatment today for melanoma. The interferon treatment is by tranfusion and is daily for one month. Pray Janice's reaction is mild and that the Lord would give her strength and endurance if it is not.
Please pray for my mom at San Simeon rehab center. Pray that she would gain strength, increase her appetite and regain mobility. Pray the staff would be sensitive to her individual needs. Pray the Lord would guide my dad and me in making decisions about her future.

Melanoma
Submitted by: Glenna Ryan | My sister, Janice, was recently diagnosed with melanoma in the lymph nodes near her neck. She will soon be scheduled for surgery at the Roswell Institute in Buffalo NY, followed by interferon chemotherapy, a very rigorous therapy. The outcome is uncertain. The source of the melanoma is unknown. Please pray for surgery to be scheduled ASAP, pray for a decent response from her employer when Jan tells them tomorrow, pray her reaction to chemo would be minimized, pray for total healing (a PET scan found no other active sites in Jan's body), pray for peace, pray for the right time to tell my mom and dad, pray for strength for Janice, pray for the right words to say. Bob Turnbull
Submitted by: Tracy Johnson | 12/17/2008 Update: Bob had some chest pain last night and they gave him nitro glycerin. They are going to do another type of stress test tomorrow to see if they can/should do surgery of some type on the blockage.
I have a serious stress headache.
12/16/2008 Update: Bob is still in the hospital. They are still tweeking his medication. He keeps getting light headed when he walks and his bloos pressure drops way down.
12/15/2008 Update: "Thank you all for your prayers. I am supposed to be bringing Bob home today. The cardiac specialist doesn't think a stint or angioplsty will help Bob at all so they are going to handle it with medication. Bob is feeling good but I think we will take it day by day for a while."
Update from Cherk: "Bob is in having a stress test right now. They are going to see if his heart is strong eough for whatever GI procedure they think is necessary. The GI Doctors aren't in agreement as to what is causing his blood loss. One says internal bleeding the other says Bob's bone marrow is not producing new blood cells. That would require a bone marrow biopsy and a hemotologist. I'm praying for the easy way out. "
Update: From Cheri..."Bob is still at Mercy hospital. They had to give him another transfusion. So now the plan is to try to get him in to the GI section to find the internal bleeding and stop it. Then they will deal with the heart issue. I feel like a yo-yo. Poor Bob didn't get much sleep last night. Please continue praying for him."

Frankie requests prayer
Submitted by: Pat LaRose | Our friend Frankie has been dealing with a benign brain tumor since he was 2 years old. He has had multiple brain surgeries, the last one being in 2004. He is going for a check up in August and he is anxious as this is the longest period he has ever had without needing surgery. The surgeries have left him home bound for up to 6 months in the past, as he needs to re-gain motor skills and vision post surgery. Frankie has been seeking a closer relationship with Jesus and a better understanding of Christianity over the past 2 years, as evidenced by his request for this prayer. Also please pray for my current agency (Child and Family Service of Pioneer Valley) as we merge with Center for Human Development (this will, I believe, give more opportunities). I have been blessed lately to find job leads not requiring a driver's license, bilingual fluency, or 3 years experience in work with a particular population as I am new to the field. I expect to here again from another agency, and yet another is interesting in talking to me when I have my initial social work license though, she said, she usually wants someone at a higher level than that. A Funeral Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, at First Church, 351 Biddle Street, Chesapeake City, Md., (410) 885-3418.

Please pray for my upcoming job interview 1t 10:00 AM this Thursday in West Springfield. The interviewer has no clue about my disabilities; I copied down the driving directions. I need help to be positive and strong to sell myself and the fact that, given the right accommodations, I can do this job. I am struggling somewhat going to a job not requiring my advanced college degree, but think I need the job and its income until I can build up my social work career, and I do believe in the employer and what they stand for. I don't ask for this type of help, usually, but am fighting depression.

Asking how
Many days we are tempted to ask Why? Why did this happen to me? Why was I singled out? Why am I not a different person? But the whys lead only to clever
explanations and rationalizations of what we do or what we are. The question for us is not Why? but How?
We ask how to learn and work our program of recovery; the "how" can give us a deeper understanding of the program. We ask God How? and God provides the
strength and guidance needed. "How" will lead to everything needed for recovery and personal growth. "Why" is irrelevant.
Am I learning how to live?
Higher Power, teach me how to live, love, and learn.
